Nodirbek Abdusattorov kept a one point lead after drawing his eighth round game against Levon Aronian. There was some tired looking play today and Fabiano Caruana and Parham Maghsoodloo seemed to pay the price for their marathon effort in round 7. Both lost, Caruana blundering against Magnus Carlsen and Maghsoodloo lost to tail ender D Gukesh. This was Gukesh's first win, and surprisingly two other players, Richard Rapport and Jorden Van Foreest also scored their first victories. Carlsen said that his win certainly improved his chances of a decent result, perhaps it's a bit late for first. Abdusattorov, Giri and So have yet to face each other so the tournament is far from decided.
